The right friend

There is a phenomenon that we all pretend we don’t partake in. If we have a tough choice to make and want a friend to give us advice, we’ll pick the friend who will give the advice we want to hear. Want someone to tell you to break up with your boyfriend? Ask Cindy, she never liked him. Want someone to tell you to go ahead and buy that new car that you’ve been dreaming about? Ask Kurt, he’s a motorhead and will enthusiastically advise you to spend your money. We need a term for when we aren’t looking for impartial advice but instead we solicit the adviser because we already know what they are going to say
